Whitecourt Power LP is located 3km northwest of Whitecourt on Hwy 43. Whitecourt Power uses the 300,000 tonnes of wood waste from the surrounding sawmills and pulp mills as the fuel to fire its advanced fluidized bed boiler. The steam generated is converted to 28MW’s of electrical energy in the turbine/generator. 25MW’s are sent out to Alberta power grid as green power. Whitecourt Power was the first biomass plant in Canada to achieve the Eco-Logo certification for environmental stewardship. Whitecourt Power’s team of highly skilled workers allows the plant to maintain its level of availability, while still maintaining its high level of environmental compliance and outstanding safety record.
